The short answer

You dock at the edge of town, a long walk or short taxi from the center. Lanzarote's famous volcano park and César Manrique caves are out of town, so plan a taxi, rental car or tour. Tickets for the main sites are set prices from the island's tourism centers.

Wise counsel

What goes wrong, and how to avoid it

Beware

  • Sights are spread across the island; no simple bus for a cruise day.
  • Popular centers get busy when several ships are in.
  • Long walk from the pier to town in the sun.

Do this

  • Buy CACT tickets online the night before.
  • Timanfaya closes earliest (15:45); go there first.
  • Most Canary and Madeira cruise calls happen in the cooler months, roughly October to April (typical pattern; confirm on your line's schedule).
Practical matters

Fees, money and access

Rules & fees

  • Fixed entry prices at the Cabildo's art, culture and tourism centers (CACT). Buy online to skip lines.
  • Canary Islands cruise tax: no Canary-wide tax or daily cap on cruise passengers could be confirmed for 2026. Checked: Puertos de Tenerife cruise and fees pages (no text), Las Palmas port site (blocked), island tourism boards. Ask your cruise line before you go.

Accessibility

Town promenade is flat. Cueva de los Verdes has steps and low ceilings. Check CACT's FAQ for each center's access.

Money

Euro (€). Cards accepted at centers. Agree taxi prices before a long trip.
