The short answer

You dock right at a small, quiet town. The island's best sights, the Corralejo sand dunes and the old capital Betancuria, need a car, taxi or tour. Puerto del Rosario itself takes about an hour to see.

Wise counsel

What goes wrong, and how to avoid it

Beware

  • Very little to do in town itself.
  • Strong wind is common; sand blows on the dunes.
  • Limited buses on the island's schedule, not built for cruise days.

Do this

  • Bring a towel, water and sunscreen for the dunes (official advice).
  • Some dune areas are nudist.
  • Most Canary and Madeira cruise calls happen in the cooler months, roughly October to April (typical pattern; confirm on your line's schedule).
Practical matters

Fees, money and access
