The short answer

Ravenna's cruise dock is out at Porto Corsini, not in town, so you need a shuttle, taxi or bus 90. The prize is the 1,500-year-old mosaics, and two of them (Galla Placidia and the Neonian Baptistery) need a booked time slot. From November 3, 2026 to March 6, 2027 the mosaic sites open only 10 am to 5 pm.

Wise counsel

What goes wrong, and how to avoid it

Beware

  • The dock is outside the city; you depend on a shuttle, taxi or an infrequent bus.
  • Galla Placidia and the Neonian Baptistery need booked time slots and sell out on busy days.
  • Terminal construction may change walking routes.
  • Some lines sell Ravenna as 'Venice'; Venice is about 2 hours away.
  • Italy has frequent announced transport strikes (trains, buses, ferries), often on Fridays. Check the Italian Ministry of Transport strike list (scioperi.mit.gov.it) the week before your port day.

Do this

  • Book the mosaic ticket online before your cruise.
  • Look up: the best mosaics are on ceilings and domes; binoculars help.
  • Sant'Apollinare in Classe, about 5 km south of the center, is a fine extra if you have a car or taxi.
Practical matters

Fees, money and access

Rules & fees

  • Mosaic sites: 8 March-2 November 2026 open 9:00-19:00; 3 November 2026-6 March 2027 open 10:00-17:00; closed Christmas and New Year's Day (ravennamosaici.it).
  • No cruise visitor caps found.

Accessibility

The old center is flat and mostly pedestrian. Some monuments have steps or uneven old floors; ask the ticket office. The bus stop is about 500 m from the terminal.

Money

Euro (EUR). Visa and Mastercard work in most shops, restaurants and museums; tap-to-pay is common. Carry 20-40 euros in cash for small cafes, toilets, markets and some buses. Use a bank ATM (inside or at a bank) and always choose to be charged in euros, not dollars, when a card machine or ATM asks.
